Seeking 1 male performer to play in two professional original musical plays in Victorian (& perhaps some NSW) schools.

The shows are based on 2 books which are short listed for the Australian Children's Book Council Book of the Year 2005.

The entire contract spans August 1st 2005 for 12 months but is not full time. 1st season runs from August 1st 2005 to September 30 2005 with between 1-4 shows per day. The following seasons are then 2-4 weeks per term for the following three terms (dates negotiated with performers at the start of the contract). Some shows may be performed in NSW also.

Rehearsals to start mid July, with shows launching August 1st.

Travel to and from office/studio in Hughesdale is provided for performers for each show.

One performance is based on a "Younger Reader's" book which is pitched at Grade 4 to Year 8 students. It is about a post WWII family in Tasmania in 1945 when their father returns home from a prison camp. The performance is 60 minutes with 3 original music theatre styled songs in the show (music by Tony Appleby, Luke Hunter). The male lead required is to play a 12 year old boy with a singing range of high baritone or above. Performer should be under 30, must be a very strong performer who can handle several long monologues and capture an audience's attention in his story telling and interaction with other performers.

The second performance is a Picture Book pitched at pre primary to Grade 6 students. It is based on adventures of a family camping at the beach and has 6 original songs (music by Tony Appleby, Luke Hunter & Tim Smith)within a 45 minute format. The same male performer here will be required to play a number of roles (toddler, 6 year old boy, perhaps father also)and be able to handle a high energy song & dance slap-stick styled performance. The performer will need to have a good sense of comic timing also.
