Auditions for March 2002 season.
Summer Shakespeare in the unique New Fortune Theatre at the University of Western Australia - an open air venue with the same dimensions as the Fortune Theatre built in 1600 by Peter Streete a year after he built Shakespeare's Globe.
This will be the eighth consecutive summer Shakespeare in the New Fortune and inaugural director Grant Malcolm returns to craft a finely tuned production of perhaps one of the greatest plays ever written. His earlier production of A Midsummer Night's Dream and sell-out performances of Macbeth have been amongst the most successful mounted in the New Fortune.
Auditionees are requested to prepare two pieces - one modern, one classical (not necessarily from the play) and be prepared to read a small section from the play.
This opportunity is even more unique in that Hamlet will be followed later in 2002 by John Milson's production of Tom Stoppard's Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead in the Dolphin Theatre, UWA.
John is one of the most experienced directors in Perth with a distinguished national and international reputation. John recently resigned as the head of the Musical Theatre programme at WAAPA and has previously directed As You Like It and King Lear for GRADS.
John and Grant will be considering opportunities for parallel casting between the two productions - your chance to potentially be cast in two superb shows from one audition!
