Juvie - auditions for teens (13 - 18) one act play for Youthfest

Audition for teens (13 – 18) for Melville Theatre’s Youthfest play. Saturday 27th July - 2.30 - 4.00pm. Required 9 – 10 strong actors for Juvie, a powerful ensemble play, by Jerome McDonough All actors (except the guards) play their character and act out the recollections of other characters. The rehearsal period is relatively short and actors will be required to commit fully to all rehearsals (to be held on Saturday afternoons, some Sunday mornings or late afternoons, depending on availability of the theatre. All characters (except guards) have monologues and these will need to be learnt quickly in order to work on the whole piece. Youthfest, a competition run by the ITA, to be held on the weekend of September 21st/22nd is what this play is being produced for. It will be the only performance (except possibly a club night dress rehearsal). The play is set in a Juvenile Detention Centre and contains scenes involving violence, drug use and other undesirable behaviours – so it is not for the faint hearted. All successful auditionees will be required to become members of Melville Theatre Company ($15 annual membership) and must be available on the weekend of September 21st-22nd for Youthfest. Auditions will be held at Meville Theatre Company, corner Stock Road and Canning Highway, at 2.30pm on Saturday July 27th. With first read through/rehearsal at 10.30am on Sunday 28th. No preparation is required for the audition, as it will be in the form of a group workshop which will go until 4.00pm. Parents or guardians are not required to stay for the auditions, but will be required to sign a permission slip indicating their willingness for their child to audition, and acknowledging the content of the play and the commitment required.
