Auditions - Wedlock (an original play)

After the success of its first production, Lawyers and other Communicable Diseases, the not-for-profit group Showroom Theatre is proud to announce auditions for the first play of its 2013 season - the original comedy/drama Wedlock, to be performed in the Subiaco Arts Centre Studio from the 14th to the 18th of May. The synopsis: "After delivering a poisonous toast at a disastrous wedding rehearsal dinner, the best man (and culprit) holds a crisis meeting with the bridal party hours before the bride is set to walk down the aisle. Only they can get the couple back on track...if bride and groom even want to get hitched anymore. Wedlock explores the often-disastrous interaction between males and females in their twenties, their skewed attitudes to relationships and romance, and ultimately, the only question that matters: is it desirable, or even possible, for this generation to make a permanent commitment to each other in our self-obsessed age?" The show requires a cast of eight actors between 18-30 - four males and four females - and all roles are currently available for auditionees. The auditions will be held on Saturday the 23rd and Sunday the 24th of March (though in extreme circumstances, special appointments can be made by providing advance notice). At the audition, you will be required to present one prepared monologue (posted on the Showroom Theatre Facebook group) and if requested, work with another actor on an unseen duologue. All auditions will be filmed for the benefit of the production crew. The film footage will be destroyed at the conclusion of auditions. After you're familiar with the material, the next step is to SMS our executive producer, Spencer, on 0459 568 716 and he will work out an audition time for you based on available space and give you the address for the audition. Alternatively, you can e-mail showroom.theatre@gmail.com and book an audition through there. WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR - Wedlock is a small cast show. The eight leads will each need to convincingly represent the sometimes hilarious, sometimes tragic issues which are encountered in and around our twenties. Your ability to switch between humour and drama in a believable manner will be what we're looking for.
