Marloo’s third show for 2013:

Synopsis: Set in 1950’s Collingwood, "The Shifting Heart" is a story of racism and prejudice. Following the family life of Momma and Poppa Bianchi who immigrated to Australia 8 years ago with their daughter Maria now heavily pregnant during the Australian summer and their son Gino getting into all sorts of trouble with the locals. With a mixed set of neighbours and set in their backyard, we hear how this Christmas turns out for this Italian Family.
Cast required (please note ages given are stage ages only)
Momma Bianchi – strong willed, comical and high spirited Italian immigrant. (Poppa’s wife) (Italian accent essential) 50-60
Poppa (Vicenzo) Bianchi – Friendly and never takes a joke well. (Italian accent essential) (Plays a harmonica (not essential)) (Momma’s husband). 50-60
Gino Bianchi – Tries to be suave, has his way with the ladies, gets into trouble with the locals though. (Italian Accent been in Aust for 8 years). Early 20s
Maria Fowler – Young, strong-willed lady, very switched on, pregnant (Slight Italian Accent) (Clarry’s wife). Late 20s early 30s
Clarry Fowler - Rugged Aussie, could easily win a fight, but shows no aggression except when it is linked to emotion (Maria’s Husband). Early to mid 30s
Leila Pratt – the friendly and accommodating neighbour, (Donny’s wife). 40s
Donny Pratt – misogynist, drunkard, but nice enough when not drunk (just hung-over) (Leila’s husband). 40s
Detective-Sergeant Lukie – very defensive type, policeman. 30 - 50
