DRAMAC PRESENTS RUBY MOON
SYNOPSIS:
Written in 2005 by Australian Playwright Matt Cameron, Ruby Moon tells the tale of parents Ray and Sylvie Moon, a couple from the town of Flaming Tree Grove, who struggle to come to terms with the disappearance of their six-year-old daughter Ruby. The story never ends for the young parents who retrace every night the events leading up to her disappearance.
As the play progresses, Sylvie and Ray play out their agony in a series of fantastical role plays, psycho-therapy gone wrong, in an attempt to make something new of their now meaningless existence. The young parents eventually descend further into a nightmarish world where the boundaries between the real and imaginary become increasingly blurred and we are left wondering if they will ever get over not knowing what happened to their missing child.
As all good playwrights should, Cameron does not spoon feed his audience; instead, he presents a tantalizingly malicious and surprisingly humorous meal for the audience to feast upon. This wonderfully macabre tale, told with a consistently stylized non naturalism questions the role of guilt, loss and mystery in a tale lined with a shadowy reflection of Australia’s identity.
