Climbing Vine is offering young Perth actors the opportunity to learn practical theatre performance in a hands-on, production based environment!
An all-time theatre classic is the comedy farce – and Climbing Vine will be bringing that tradition to the stage with our own special twist in Dinner at Murder Mansion.
Full of classical sisnister atmosphere and who-dunnit mystery, Dinner at Murder Mansion takes our actors – and our audience – to a formal dinner at an isolated gothic mansion. Here, we are guests of reclusive eccentric Count Murder, who is offering a sizeable reward to anyone who can help cure his terrible amensia, a disorder that has seen him forget his entire past, even his own family.
Now in his twighlight years, the Count is desperate to remember, so he can spend his last days in the company of family and pass on his wealthy estate to them. In a last ditch attempt to find a solution, the Count has invited experts from around the world to bring their potential cures to him. From a voodoo witchdoctor to a ground-breaking brain surgeon, they come from far and wide, all hoping they’ll be the one to earn the Count’s favour and fortune. But when one by one the guests start to fall prey to a mysterious monster stalking the mansion grounds, it soon becomes a contest to stay alive!
Funny and fast paced, Dinner at Murder Mansion offers our actors the opportunity to work with farce theatre, a genre that remains very popular throughout the U.K. and Europe. Participating actors will learn “high performance”, timing and delivery and the mechanics of live narrative comedy.
Dinner at Murder Mansion will be a large scale production presented by the City of Belmont as an official event, to be staged at Belmont City College’s Amphitheatre, a fabulous outdoor venue seating up to 300.
Young actors will take part in a course of weekly workshops as part of our Foundation Program, to develop the performance. The course equips young performers with a sound foundation of performance skill and a hands-on experience of an industry standard production. This is then followed by a two week intensive rehearsal period before the show goes to the stage.
The program begins in January of 2012 and is open to young actors aged 13 to 25.
