Darlington Theatre Players Inc are holding auditions for their November 2011 production of Jack and the Beanstalk, which will be performed at Marloo Theatre, Greenmount from November 11 to December 3,2011.
AUDITION DATES
- Saturday 16th July from 10.00am – 5.00pm.
- Sunday 17th July from 2.00pm – 6.00pm
AUDITION VENUE
- Marloo Theatre, 20 Marloo Road, Greenmount
AUDITION REQUIREMENTS
- Please prepare one song that demonstrates your vocal ability and range.
- If auditioning for a principal role, ensure your selection covers the vocal range required.
- Please provide your own backing track
- (Backing tracks can be downloaded for a small fee at www.musicalcreations.com).
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
- Rehearsals will be held on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 7.00pm until 10.00pm commencing Monday 25th July.
- Sunday rehearsals will be from 2.00pm to 5.00pm..
- Performance dates are Friday 11th. Saturday 12th, Sunday 13th, Wednesday 16th, Friday 18th, Saturday 19th, Sunday 20th,Wednesday 23rd, Friday 25th, Saturday 26th,Sunday 27th, Wednesday 30th November and Friday 2nd,Saturday 3rd December 2011.
CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS (All ages shown are stage ages).
JACK SPRAGUE
- Male,mid-teens
- Baritone : A –High F
Jack is the hero and dreamer who is easily duped. He needs to move well and be able to dance.
MRS. SPRAGUE
- Female, mid-thirties
- Soprano: Low A – High G
A widow and mother of Jack. She is a practical, hard-working farm woman; kind to her son.
BETSY, a cow
- Male or Female
Two actors who can move and dance well. They must be able to project through the costume and cow-head comedic reactions as well as the intelligent and loveable qualities that are called for in the script. These actors will also play Beanstalk People.
THE BARON
- Male, 35-45
- Baritone: C – High E
The baronial villain; powerful and dynamic. He can be played somewhat in the fashion of the old-style melodrama villain, but at the same time he must be a believable force of evil. Must be able to move well.
THE GIANT
- Male, 35-45
- Baritone: D – High F
Should be extremely tall if possible. In this version he is not the villain but a loveable, comedic character who befriends Jack. The actor must dance and move well and have a good sense of timing and farce.
THE HOUSEKEEPER
- Female, mid-thirties
- Soprano: E – High E
The actor should be as small as possible (for contrast to The Giant). She is energetic and comedic and must move and dance well.
THE ASSISTANT
- Male, mid-thirties
- Baritone: D – High E
A fatherly type with amnesia. Not farcical. Should move well.
THE GOLDEN HARP
- Male or Female
- Tenor or Soprano: D – High F
A mechanical, robot-like creation of the Giant. The character must be played with comedic charm.
THE GOLDEN GOOSE
- Female
- Mezzo or pop style voice: Low A – High E
She is less mechanical than the harp and should be played in a high farce style. Must tap dance and be able to perform in the old vaudeville style.
CHORUS
- 6 Male and 6 Female, all ages.
- Must be able to sing and move well
- The chorus play both Neighbours and Beanstalk People.
