We will be holding another audition session for this production as we still require a few more BOYS to take on some roles. If you are a boy aged 15 up and are interested in being involved in this zany collection of plays, submit your interest by emailing Cassie at timing@stirlingplayers.com.au and she can confirm your slot for 7-9pm Wednesday 6 April at Stirling Theatre, Morris Place, Innaloo. The world according to David Ives is a very strange place indeed. His plays create a near perfect inspection of the English language – and of the audience’s aptitude for perplexity and joy. Ives’ characters are thrust into black holes called “Philadelphias,” where the simplest desires are uproariously frustrated. Russian revolutionary, Leon Trotsky faces his own death eight times. And a con man peddles courses in an invented language in which “welcome” translates as “velcro” and “fraud” comes out as “freud.” SPY is seeking an ensemble of young actors aged 15 years and up willing to enter this strange world. Our next production will be a three night season in May 2011 entitled All in the Timing, a selection of One Act Plays from playwright David Ives’ book of the same name. With six plays each approximately 10 minutes in length, suitable actors may be cast in more than one role, with extras required for the tech crew. The following plays have been selected: Sure Thing A man and a woman meet for the first time in a cafe, where they have an awkward meeting continually reset each time they say the wrong thing, until, finally, they romantically connect. (1M 1F) The Universal Language A woman is taught a language invented by the teacher, and as they learn to communicate, they fall in love. (1M 1F) Variations on the Death of Trotsky Revolutionary Leon Trotsky dies several times from a mountain-climber's ax-wound received many hours prior. (2M 1F) The Philadelphia A man is informed by a friend that his strange day is the result of an irregular pocket of reality in which he must ask for the opposite of what he wants in a restaurant. (2M 1F) Foreplay, or The Art of the Fugue Three miniature golf games taking place simultaneously, showing one man on three separate first dates. (3M 3F) Philip Glass Buys a Loaf of Bread A musical parody of minimalist composer Philip Glass. (2M 2F) Auditions will be held on Wednesday 30 March from 7pm at Stirling Theatre, Morris Place, Innaloo. All actors are asked to prepare one of the following: - a short (1 - 2 mins) funny monologue - a long joke - a short funny duologue with another auditionee - a short funny musical number (CD backing or a capella please) We are interested in your comic timing, your ability to deliver funny lines and your willingness to play around with your pieces. There will be improvisational elements of the audition, so be prepared to NOT be prepared for some of it! To secure your place at the audition, or for any further information, please contact the Production Coordinator Cassie at timing@stirlingplayers.com.au.
