Don's Party

Melville Theatre Company will be holding auditions for their third season for 2011, Don's Party in March. Auditions will be held from 11am Saturday 19/3/2011, with an alternate date of Wednesday 16/3/2011 from 7pm for those unable to make Saturday. ******************EDIT***************************************** The Saturday timeslots are now filled, though there will no doubt be the odd dropout, and no show. Still times available Wednesday evening. *************************************************************** Auditionees will be asked to deliver a short prepared monologue of their choice, and will also cold read from the script in small groups. In the first instance, please contact the director by email. A timeslot will be allocated about a week prior to the audition. Season dates are:- July 1, 2, 7, 8, 9, 14, 15, 16 @ 8pm July 3 @ 2pm A brief synopsis - Election night 1969, Labor supporters Don and Kath give a party to celebrate the impending election victory. As the tide turns against Labor, the bawdy good cheer palls and the faded ideals and disappointed hopes of the characters begin to show. 40 years on, this play is still relevent today. Cast required - 6M/5F Characters: Don Henderson - A schoolteacher and host of the party. Kath Henderson- Don's frustrated wife. Simon An introverted and timid plastics manufacturer. Jody - Simon’s wife who is a bit overdressed, very naïve and votes liberal simply because she loathes the sound of, and images she gets from, the word labor. Mal - Mal is bitter and broke. Jenny - The passive agressive wife of Mal. Mack - Recently a bachelor. Evan - Evan is a stuck-up, seemingly humorless dentist. Kerry - Kerry is Evan's wife, an artist. Cooley - Cooley is a misogynist, loudmouthed lawyer. Susan - Cooley’s extremely attractive latest girlfriend. All characters are 30-40, stage age, apart from Susan who is about 20.
