Auditions Private Lives by Noel Coward Directed by Henry Jennings Season: 5th March -16th April Friday and Saturday nights at 8pm Sunday matinée at 4.30pm READING There will be a reading of Private Lives, Noel Coward's masterpiece, of wit and doomed love, to take place at the Genesian Theatre from 7pm to 9.30pm on Wednesday 10th November. It will be fun night and will give people a chance to read one of Cowards finest and most enduring works and for those who do not know the play it should be a great way to get acquainted. Whether you are interested in auditioning or not, its a great excuse to brush off your poshest English accent and fall in love with the wit and inventiveness of Coward. AUDITIONS Auditions for Private Lives will be held at our rehearsal space at Camperdown on Saturday 20th, Saturday 27th between 1.00pm and 5.00pm Auditions will consist of readings from the play and if you have a piece from any other play please feel free to bring it along as well. Private Lives is one of Noel Coward's greatest works and is the perfect comedy for today. Written in 1930 at the height of his powers, Coward took just four days whilst convalescing in Kowloon to pen this classic tale of love's impetuous folly. Originally Coward himself played Elyot whilst his old friend Gertrude Lawrence played his foe Amanda. The original production also included Lawrence Olivier as the new husband Victor. Elyot and Amanda, a recently divorced couple, find themselves in adjoining rooms on their honeymoon with their new partners. They find they cannot live without each other but maybe worse of all, they can't live with each other. Will they sacrifice everything for love or will they remain faithful to their new vows and partners? As always an astute observer of human folly, this is Noel Coward at his best. Henry is an experienced director and in 2009 was in Genesian's production of Noises Off. No stranger to comedy his credits include The Importance of Being Earnest, Dead White Males and recently the delicious 1930s all girl cast of The Women.
