Characters in this play are -
NORMAN THAYER - 79 years old (he has his 80th birthday during the play) He walks slowly but upright. On the one hand he is boyish and peppery, at the same time her is grand and has a manner and way of speaking and carrying himself that seem to belong to another era. Although in good health he has a few age-related problems. Though he flirts with senility, he know it and plays it to the hilt!
ETHEL THAYER - 69 years old - described as small but energentic beyond belief! She is Norman's opposite in many ways - where he is strong, she is gentle, when he is fiesty she is calm. They are the best of friends and have been married for 46 years.
CHELSEA THAYER- Normal and Ethel's daughter. She is approximately 40. There is an under-lying challenge between father and daughter which is ever-present. She is a likeable woman who knows her own mind and won't be swayed from her personal beliefs.
CHARLIE MARTIN - a local man who has known the Thayers most of his life. He is a couple of years older than Chelsea and still holds a candle for her. He is helpful, sincere and sociable and has never married. He laughs easily, but does not really understand the subtlety of Norman's sarcasm.
BILL RAY - Chelsea's boyfriend and of similar age. He is a dentist and has a son (Billy Ray)He is a good match for Chelsea in many ways, except when in her father's company.
BILLY RAY - 13 - 15 years of age. He is eager to please, quick to 'catch on'; a bright teenager who readily warms those around him, especially Norman.
