Written by Elizabeth Coleman, Secret Bridesmaid’s Business is a seriously funny play filled with delightful characters and weaved around a storyline which exposes the insanity created when the wedding juggernaut threatens to swerve out of control.

Marnie Went directs this production for MATES Theatre Society  which is set on the night before Meg Bacon’s wedding; she and her bridesmaid’s are planning to kick up their heals as the final hours before Meg’s big day tick down.

However, not everything goes according to plan; a last minute scandal threatens to ruin the whole affair and poses the question: Marriage may be a wonderful thing, but after a night like this could it really be worth it?

Secret Bridesmaid’s Business is brought to life by a cast of six and Marnie is seeking to fill the following roles:

  • Colleen Bacon: 55+, the bride’s mother.  On the eve of her daughter’s wedding she is flustered, bossy but well intentioned.
  • Meg Bacon: 30’s,  the bride.  Meg is warm, slightly fragile but nonetheless fun.
  • Angela Dixon: 30’s, the Matron of Honor.  Despite being occasionally vague, Angela is a loyal and giving person.
  • Lucy Dean: 30’s, bridesmaid.  Earthy, impetuous and direct.
  • Naomi Bartlett: late 20’s, a friend.  Naomi is sexy, self-absorbed and conflicted.
  • James Davis: 30’s, the Groom.  The lone male in the story James is a sincere man who is successful and confident.

A complete play reading will take place on Tuesday evening 2ND November and auditions will occur on Thursday evening 4TH November.

Rehearsals for Secret Bridesmaid’s Business commence on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from early January with performances taking place in April-May 2011.

Director Marnie Went is one of only three original members of MATES Theatre Society; she has been involved in nearly of all of the group’s fifty-three productions since 1990 and brings an extensive amount of experience as an actor, singer, writer, director and administrator of the group to the director’s chair.
