Requires a ruggedly handsome, charismatic actor with sex appeal. Should have a facility for verse and excellent comedic skills. Moves very well. Baritone, low A to G above middle C. Luisa (The Girl): Actress should look and be able to play 20 or younger. Requires very strong acting and singing. Some dance. Soprano range with a B below middle C with strong and consistent high C. Some coloratura and chest singing. Matt (The Boy): Actor should look and be able to play around 20. Strong actor and singer, energetic, with some dance. Lyric baritone with low A to G above middle C. Hucklebee (The Boy's Father): Requires a strong character actor. Hucklebee is an ex-Navy chief, a bit sloppy. Some dance. Baritone, low A to middle C. Must be able to handle harmony. Bellomy (The Girl's Father): Requires a strong character actor. Bellomy is a button-maker, neat. Some dance. Baritone, low A to G above middle C. Henry (The Old Actor): Non-singing role. Requires an excellent character actor, able to play very old, with strong stage presence. Shakespearean experience an asset. Mortimer (The Indian): Non-singing role. Henry's sidekick. Requires an ageless character actor with good pantomime ability. Cockney accent. The Mute: Constantly on stage, sets the action. Not a mime. Must move very well and have excellent concentration. Usually a male but can be played by a female. An ability to perform magic would be an advantage, tho not essential. Audition requirement will initially simply be a cold read of extracts from the script (these will be available in the foyer so arrive early to prepare). Those auditioning for singing roles should have a prepared song of their choice and bring sheet music if accompaniment is required. Rehearsals will be two week nights and one weekend day per week starting in October. There will be a break in rehearsals over the Christmas/New Year period. Please note this is an unpaid production.
