Come play with us! And explore some of the tools that the Queensland Shakespeare Ensemble uses in our unique approach. This intensive course is:
- an excellent introduction to the Ensemble's training methods, and
- a refresher for past and present members who want to re-visit or deepen their connection to Shakespeare's language.
**************************
DAY 1 - Owning Shakespeare's Language
The first day begins with a full vocal and physical warm-up, getting everyone comfortable with each other and in the space. Participants are then divided into smaller groups with senior QSE teachers.
Using personalisation techniques, each participant will have individual attention - allowing Shakespeare's words to become their own.
DAY 2 - The Clues in the Text
The second day again begins with a thorough warm-up. Day 2 goes on to explore ways of breathing with the structure of the language and bringing it to life; getting the rhythm of the verse into the body; and finding clues to character, thought and action hidden in the text.
**************************
WHEN?
Saturday and Sunday, Nov 26th and 27th. Each session begins at 9:00am sharp and ends at 5:00pm.
HOW MUCH?
The two days of the Weekend Workshop can be taken:
- independently for $90 per day ($75 concession);
- both days for $150 ($120 concession).
**************************
FACILITATOR: The workshop is facilitated by co-artistic director and Comedy of Errors director Rob Pensalfini, and assisted by senior QSE teachers.
MEMBERSHIP - All training participants become members of QSE - entitling you to participate in courses and workshops, be considered for casting in productions and attend the Annual General Meeting. You also receive our quarterly members' newsletter (chock-full 'o articles and information on Shakespeare, actor training and QSE news and events). As a non-profit we are required to charge our members a small yearly fee (currently $15). Note that you do not have to train with us to be a member!
YOUR MONOLOGUE - Participants come to the weekend with a 10-20 line monologue learned by heart. The piece doesn't need to be age or gender appropriate, but should be something that you feel a strong personal connection to. The speech can be from any Shakespeare play, but should be in verse (not prose). For help in choosing, see our links page:www.qldshakespeare.org/links.htm
