Shades of MATES: featuring 2, one-act plays Be Prepared and Split Ends

MATES Theatre Society, a community theatre society located at Birkdale in Brisbane, is conducting auditions for two, one-act plays.

• Who. All people over the age of 18.

Title - Be Prepared
Author: Ian Austin
Director: Mark Harrison
Synopsis: Calliope Syndrone desparately wants to sell her house fully furnished, but encounters problems when her dotty sister gives all her furniture away to the Boy Scouts.
Cast Required - 4 female, 1 male
• Calliope Syndrone; 50 to 60; a dotty old lady
• Misty May; 40—50; Calliope’s sister
• Mrs Knowall; 30 to 40; the mean spirited neighbour
• Ms Prospect; 20 to 40; a prosepective buyer
• Leader Brownie; 30 to 40; a Boy Scout leader

Title: Split Ends
Author: Frank Vickery
Director: Gary Annable
Synopsis: Cyril, a middle aged, balding man loses his hair-piece.  His son, Norman, is due to arrive with his new girlfriend Susan.  Self-conscious about his lack of hair, Cyril refuses to come downstairs. When it cannot be located replaces it with one of his wife's old turban hats.  Things spiral out of control when Susan loses a contact lens at afternoon tea which Cyril accidentally swallows and nearly chokes on.  While preparing to take Cyril to the hospital they find his hair-pierce behind the lounge - or so they think!!!
Cast Required: 2 male, 2 female
   • Cyril, middle-aged—terribly self-conscious and in denial about his baldness.
   • Nancy; middle-aged; strong, witty, middle class woman.
   • Norman; mid to late twenties; has had previous girlfriends, but now has Susan and wants her to meet the parents.
   • Susan, mid to late twenties; not bad looking, thin, speaks with a lisp and loves to eat.
