What happens when an unplanned reunion takes place, old issues resurface, old wounds reopen, old tragedies are revisited and previously unspoken grudges are aired. A timeless look at Australian family culture and how time and distance effects subtle, and not so subtle, changes to the relationships. Written with humour and pathos by well respected Australian playwright, Hannie Rayson.
CHARACTERS: 4 women, 3 men, 1 youth. Some of the ages can be flexible.
Marge Morrisey 57 +, divorcee, teacher, mother of 4, (all left home). Has holiday home in orrento where she goes every weekend.
Dick Bennett 43, editor of the Australian Voice. His friendship with Marge dates back to the early seventies. He lives alone and is regular visitor to Marge's holiday home.
Hilary Moynihan The eldest of the Moynihan sisters. Lives in family home in Sorrento with her father and 16yo son. Husband killed in a car accident. She owns a small gourmet deli in the main street.
Wal Moynihan 69, the father of Hilary, Pippa and Meg. He is now retired, having been proprietor of the local garage, Moynihan Motors. The family has been in Sorrento for generations and he is something of a local character.
Troy Moynihan Hilary's son, 16.
Edwin Bates 45, Englishman, married to Meg. Is a partner in a successful publishing firm in London.
Meg Moynihan Middle sister, novelist, expatriate. She has been living in London for 10 years. Her second novel, Melancholy, has been nominated for the Booker prize.
Pippa Moynihan The youngest sister, currently living in New York, well traveled, and now a highly paid advertising executive.
