Kwinana Theatre Workshop will be holding auditions on Monday 6th April @ 7pm for their upcoming June season of "Benefactors", directed by Lee Wright who in 1995 won the Robert Finley Award for Best play "Find Me"and in 1996 won the Rob De Vak award for most innovative production "Bar and Ger" at the ITA state drama festival.
Benefactors was written by playwright Michael Frayne and was first performed in London in 1984 winning several awards including; Evening Standard Award for Best Play, Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Play and London Theatre Critics Award for Best Play and was nominated for the 1986 Tony Award for Best Play for its Broadway production.
Written as a memory play, “Benefactors” is set in the late 60’s and is a timely mix of political drama, irony and wit which centres around a visionary architects dream to plan and redevelop a housing estate in the decaying slums of London. “Benefactors” is a brainy comedy which presents us with two domestically intertwined couples; David the architect and his wife Jane the efficient superwoman who doubles as his helpmate and surrogate social worker. The problem is that David and Jane treat their neighbours Colin and Sheila – a mockingly sardonic journalist and his oppressed wife – as if they are another site in urgent need of development.
