EUROBEAT - Almost Eurovision

Eurobeat – Almost Eurovision Williamstown Mechanics Institute Friday May 15th to Saturday May 30th 2009. It’s a musical banquet. It’s a glamourfest. It’s a political minefield. Eurobeat – the Eurovision Musical is an original adaptation of the infamous Eurovision Song Contest. Set in Sarajevo and hosted by the glamorous Boyka and her tall, blond, pretty and dumb co-host Sergei they present for the enjoyment of the audience 12 acts representing an eclectic mix of countries. Whether it be the Swedish pop stylings of Avla, the Russian boy band KGBoiz, from the Hungarian triplets the Molnar Sisters with their powerful folk music (sung in Hungarian of course) to the heartfelt longing of the song for Ireland presented by Ronan Corr, audiences are treated to a smorgasbord of entertainment presented by a cast of performers who sing, dance and whip audiences up into a frenzied state. In true Eurovision style at the end of the performances the audiences have the opportunity to vote (having been endowed with a nationality on the night and handed a voting form upon entry). The audiences votes are tabulated and then counted down as each country’s votes are given out ’live via satellite’. The event is reinvented every night as the audience dictates who the winners are. Once they are identified by the end of the voting the winners return to the stage for a triumphant reprise of their winning entry PRODUCTION TEAM Production Manager: Marcus Cassidy-Anderson Artistic Team: Scott Ponsford, Mark Spencer and Daniel Heskett AUDITION INFORMATION Auditions will be held at The Williamstown Mechanics Institute (Corner Melbourne Road & Electra Street, Williamstown) and the Williamstown Town Hall. All auditionees are required to make a booking with the Audition Secretary, Ros O’Donovan on 1300 881 545. AUDITION DATES Wednesday 10th December from 7.00pm Williamstown Mechanics Institute (Corner Melbourne Road & Electra Street) Saturday 13th December from 12.00pm Williamstown Town Hall (104 Ferguson Street, Williamstown) PLEASE NOTE: All auditionees are required to attend a Dance Audition on Sunday 14th December at 1.00pm and possible Callbacks at 4.00pm. The Production Team will inform you if you are required to attend call backs after your audition. AUDITION REQUIREMENTS · Auditionees must be over the age of 16 (at time of audition). · Please prepare one song that demonstrates your vocal range and strengths, conveying to the direction team your complete abilities as a performer. The song MUST be in the style of ‘cheesy pop’. · Sheet music must be provided to the accompanist and all sheet music must be in the correct key. Backing tracks are allowed and a CD player will be available. · Part of the audition may involve the singing of scales and other technical exercises. · Performers who have excellent singing, acting and movement skills, and from all ethnic backgrounds, are invited to audition. OTHER REQUIREMENTS · Rehearsals will be held from Sunday the 1st of March. Rehearsals are on Sunday afternoons from 1pm to 5.30pm and Monday and Wednesday’s from 7.30pm to 10.30pm. · There will be an intensive rehearsal weekend tentatively planned for April 24th, 25th and 26th. · Performance dates are from Friday May 15th to Saturday May 30th (inclusive).
