This most American of musicals lays bare the lives of nine individuals who assassinated or tried to assassinate the President of the United States, in a one-act historical “revusical” that explores the dark side of the American experience. From John Wilkes Booth to Lee Harvey Oswald, Stephen Sondheim and John Weidman bend the rules of time and space, taking us on a nightmarish rollercoaster ride in which assassins and would-be assassins from different historical periods meet, interact and in an intense final scene inspire each other to harrowing acts in the name of the American Dream.” (www.mtishows.com) The following roles are being auditioned for: LEE HARVEY OSWALD (Age 24) / THE BALLADEER JOHN HINCKLEY (Age 26) JOHN WILKES BOOTH (Age 27) LEON CZOLGOSZ (Age 27) GIUSEPPE ZANGARA (Age 33) CHARLES GUITEAU (Age 41) SAMUEL BYCK (Age 44) LYNETTE “SQUEAKY” FROMME (Age 27) EMMA GOLDMAN (Age 32) / THE PROPRIETOR SARA JANE MOORE (Age 45) (All other roles will be doubled by the above) Ages are the correct ages of the characters at the times they are portrayed. Will be used as a guideline only for casting. Auditionees are requested to prepare a song that is not from Assassins, but preferably one written by Stephen Sondheim (or someone Sondheimesque) Backing tracks preferred, there will be no accompanist on the day.
