Based on Hans Christian Andersen’s “The Ugly Duckling”, Honk! is the heart-warming story of an odd looking little duck and his quest to find his mother.
Cast
We require an ensemble cast of 12, all of whom must have good singing and character acting ability and be able to move well. We also require a variety of British accents.
Ugly: Male, 20s, tenor, slight British accent. This is a major role for a talented character actor
Ida: Ugly’s mother, 20s to 30s. Mezzo, Middle class British accent. A major role with several beautiful songs. Ida is the heart of Honk!
Drake/Greylag, male 30s-40s. Baritone. Scottish accent for Drake. Upper class British accent for Greylag. Two terrific contrasting roles requiring versatile character actor
The Cat: Male 20s-30s. Tenor, French accent, dance/tap ability preferred. Our loveable villain. Large role
The following are great roles requiring versatile character actors:
Grace/Dot/Lowbutt/Bewick. Female, 20s-40s, mezzo, various British accents.
Maureen/Snowy/Queenie/Mother Swan. Female, 20s-40s, mezzo, various British accents
Turkey/Barnacles/Bullfrog/Father Swan. Male, 20s-40s, baritone, various British accents
Henrietta/Pinkroot/Penny. Female, 20s, Mezzo.
We also require 2 males and 2 females to play ducklings and froglets. Various vocal types required. Late teens to 20s. British accent.
Please note: All ages are approximate.
Audition Requirements
Please prepare one song that demonstrates your musical ability. Honk! is a light-hearted musical comedy so please choose your song accordingly. Please bring music in the correct key. No CDs or backing tracks. Please be prepared to demonstrate accents.
