The play Dimboola was written by Jack Hibberd in the late 1960s. It is said to be Australia's ‘most performed ‘production, with more Australians seeing Dimboola than any other musical, comedy or play. The play is set in the country and is the celebration of the wedding of Morrie McAdam,(the Protestant) to Reen Delaney( the Catholic). No holds are barred as the two families come together for the wedding which Jack Hibberd calls "the testing of insults and punches as they resolve to come to terms with the situation. The stage play was made into a movie in 1979 and starred Bruce Spence, Max Gillies, Max Cullen and Val Jellay Dimboola's appeal stems from its unique presentation with inclusion of the audience as the ‘wedding guests’ sharing all the events and intimacies of Morrie and Reen's big day. When guests arrive at a performance of Dimboola at the ‘J’, they are in for some outrageous fun. Sixteen characters of assorted ages make up the "bridal table from hell" and while one might not like to think that we are laughing at ourselves, we all know one or more of the characters portrayed or we have even been to a wedding just like Dimboola. All performances are dinner shows, at the ‘J’, Noosa Junction, and the audience will participate in the wedding reception. Dimboola opens on Friday 12th December, and will conclude on Saturday 20th December.
