The Drawer Boy The multi award-winning play by Michael Healey Director: Chris Baldock Season dates: 14 February - 1 March 2008 Audition Dates Monday December 3rd from 7.30 pm only To advise you will be attending and to receive a script, please contact the director at thedrawerboy@gmail.com or on 0402 616 609 Synopsis: A funny, poignant and heartwarming play about the redemptive power of art. Miles, a naive young actor, is researching a play about rural communities in Canada by living and working on a farm. His hosts are brothers Morgan and Angus. Resentful of Miles's snooping, Morgan amuses himself by setting the gullible city slicker a string of stupid chores. Soon Miles is mucking out the cow shed with a dessert fork. Angus was badly injured during World War II and is incapable of remembering anything that happens more than five minutes ago. But as Miles acts out the two farmers' stories, Angus's memory begins to return — with deeply touching consequences. Michael Healey's acclaimed and multiaward- winning play is inspired by a true-life event that is now legendary in Canadian theatre. Some Canadian reviews: "A beautifully written play. It moves from toughness and hilarity to something devastating and tender" - Michael Ondaatje "Sheer magic........A moving tribute to art's healing power" - Macleans "Instant classic.......The Drawer Boy has heart, soul and brains" - Now Magazine (Toronto) Characters (and ages): Miles: 20s Morgan: 50s Angus: 50s All are major roles.
