Three Tall Women

The first play of 2008 for Melville Theatre Company will be Edward Albee's Three Tall Women.

DATE: Saturday November 17th at 2 pm at the theatre.

Three Tall Women is the 1994 Pulitzer Prize winning drama that has won Albee much acclaim  -  "humane", a "simmering sense of black humour", "an astonishing piece of work combining fierce intelligence with deep feeling"

The play is a witty and touching drama of mortality and destiny. In Act 1 we meet A - an elderley woman suffering dementia, B - her carer and C a young lawyer. In Act 2 the same three actressess give us an insight into the life of this woman as a 26 year old-C a 52 year old-B and a 91 year old - A

THree Tall Women will be directed by Vanessa Jensen (Jamie's Chooks, Pride & Predjudice)

The Season will run February 1  -  16th 2008

CHARACTERS:

A: A very old woman (you don't need to be very old, stage make-up can do wonders!), autocratic, proud and as together as the ravages of time allow. Beautifully dressed.

B:Looks rather as A would have done at 52. Plainly dressed

C: Looks rather as B would have done at 26. smartly dressed

THe boy: Early 20's preppy. This is a non-speaking role but vital!

The three women are all on stage together for 99% of the time. They are all large roles with a mixture of quick short speecehes and long dramatic monologues. The language is modern and there are some sexual references (Quite subtle) All three wowmen play a different character in each act.

THe boy is on stage for most of Act 2, he does not speak but does need to act - grief over his dying mother mainly.

Rehearsals will be monday, Wednesday and Sunday evenings until December 19th when we break for Christmas and New Year. They will then revert to the more usual Tuesday and Thursday evening and Sunday afternoons from Janueary 3rd.

Auditions will consist of delivering one of the monologues from the script and readin a scene or two with others. The extracts are available from the director via email  now.
