Deathtrap

Auditions will be held at Beaumaris Theatre for our Anonymous Theatre production for 2007 on Saturday May 12th. Director Darius Pierce will be auditioning from 10am till approx 4pm that day. More auditions may be scheduled for Sunday May 13th from 10am if there is the demand – however, we would like to restrict auditions to the Saturday. Darius will be rehearsing separately with each of the actors cast, so rehearsal times will be organised individually with them. Strict confidentiality will be required so that no actor (or any member of the public) will be aware of who the other actors are until the curtains open on performance night. “Deathtrap” will be performed as Anonymous Theatre on Saturday June 30th. The actors will then be able to rehearse together during the next week, and perform again on Friday July 6th and Saturday July 7th. Therefore anyone who auditions must be available for all rehearsals and performance dates. All performances will be at 8pm. Character details: The following are guides only, as it will depend on who auditions as to who is cast in these roles. The ages are therefore flexible. Sydney Bruhl, male, a playright, about fifty, an impressive and “well-tended” man. Lead role. Myra Bruhl, his wife, in her forties, slim and self-effacing. Clifford Anderson, an aspiring playright, mid-twenties, an attractive young man. Lead role. Helga ten Dorp, a Dutch psychic, a stocky strong-jawed Teutonic woman in her early fifties. Porter Milgrim, Sydney’s attorney, a man of substance in his mid-fifties. Synopsis: “Deathtrap” is set in the isolated New England home of thriller playright Sydney Bruhl. The action centres around the play “Deathtrap”, a new thriller by unknown dramatist Clifford Anderson which he has sent to Sydney for comment – or has he? The play takes many unexpected twists and turns. Helga ten Dorp does her best to warn of the disquieting vibrations she is sensing, but it is too late for some. To reveal more would be to ruin the suspense, which will certainly be emphasised by the Anonymous Theatre format.
