MURDER DEFERRED (July Season)
By Stuart Ready
Characters
Leila Markham (mid 40’s) Pleasant, good-looking
Mrs Bolders (45-55) Local odd-job woman
Minnie Akers (40-60) Pleasant, eccentric, carelessly dressed,
sharp-tongued but warm-hearted
Ruth Cousins (25-30) Hard, cunning, tough, trendy, uneducated
speech
Trudi Bauer (19-20) Student, au pair
Col. Fountain (40-60) Local JP, classy, authoritative, austere
Brian Clancy (about 40) Irish, appears a “good sort”, but can be
abusive & aggressive
Life for Leila Markham, licensee of “The Haywain”, a Dorset village inn, seems quiet and pleasant enough, but, with the arrival of the tough, dangerous, Ruth Cousins, secrets of Leila’s past catch up with her. In her efforts to cope with a blackmail plot, she becomes involved in the more serious business of murder. Or does she? It remains for the amiably eccentric Minnie Akers to sort things out.
All ages are really quite indeterminate, except for Trudi who is of course a student.
Auditions for this intriguing drama will take place at the Theatre on Saturday afternoon 14th April at 2.30pm sharp and will be in the format of a reading, so everyone will get a ‘go’ at reading a part. In this way too, you will know what the story is all about and get a ‘feel’ for all the characters.
