Blak Yak Theatre's first production for 2007 is the World Premiere stage adaptation of Black Books.
Black Books is an award-winning British TV show (Best Situation Comedy, 2001 & 2005, British Academy Awards) and we are proud to bring it to the stage for the very first time.
Bernard Black would have the perfect life - running his own book shop, "Black Books" - were it not for the nuisance of customers. Continually interrupting his valuable wine-drinking time, Bernard prefers to abuse his customers rather than serve them. Helped (or rather, hindered) by employee Manny and next-door-neighbour Fran, Bernard does his best to avoid the twin evils of sobriety and customer service.
Blak Yak has a reputation for producing award-winning stage adaptations of other media, from sitcoms such as Red Dwarf, Coupling and Men Behaving Badly, to movies such as Dead Poets Society and The Last Supper, to original adaptations of Terry Pratchett's books, such as Sourcery, Hogfather and The Truth. (Please note that Blak Yak is a non-profit, volunteer group.)
We are excited to announce auditions for a full-length production of Black Books. The roles of Bernard, Manny and Fran have been cast from an earlier audition, but there are many other roles for victims... sorry... customers and associates. The director is looking for actors, both male and female, of a variety of ages who can play multiple roles. The season will play at the Town Square Theatre in Kalamunda (in association with KADS) in late April / early May.
Auditions will be held at the Blue Room (Northbridge, WA) on Sunday Feb 25, starting from 9.30 am. Please phone Melissa on 0404 913 018 or email her at to book an audition time.
