A little help from my friends

A lad in sane productions follow up to The Karaoke Twist (Old Mill Theatre December 2006) ABOUT THE PLAY… Nigel Wren is a budding playwright. A rather pathetic one, according to the theatre gurus who’ve read his work. Our story begins with poor Nigel receiving yet another rejection of his work. Somewhat dejected, Nigel is left unsure as to what he must do to get his work recognised and staged. His flatmate Warren suggests he should try something radical, as in, invite a bunch of non-theatre types over, for a few drinks, and a reading of his latest work. This, on the remote chance that the guests may offer some constructive feedback from left field! Nigel, being at all times sensitive and arty, is less than enthused about this most ludicrous of ideas. Even more so after hearing the names on Warren’s invite list.… but, as Warren so rightly points out…’What has he got to lose?’ … And so… reluctantly…Nigel agrees to give the idea a try… will the idea prove fruitful? To find out, join us at the Nexus Theatre… May 1/2/3/4/5 2007… THE CAST Six actors (3 girls, 3 guys). Note: Four roles have been filled, two remain to be filled, these are: WARREN Stage age = 20-28. No particular physical trait, if anything possibly slightly overweight / out of shape. Average Aussie bloke, likes beer, chocolate and chips (at the same time). Easy going, helpful personality. Gregarious, party hard type. Likes action movies, footy, really just your average likeable Aussie bloke. REECE Stage age = 18-20. Warren’s Bogan / grungy brother. Appearance = Skinny longhaired black t-shirt grungy mosh pit type. Finished school at 14, although didn’t leave until 15. Working in a factory until he joins a band. Dreams of rock stardom but can’t sing or play guitar. Streetwise. Cool dude, likes rap, AC/DC, Chisel and The Arctic Monkeys. Likes utes, action movies with heaps of car crashes, and killing. Loves getting pissed with his mates, hanging out with his good looking girlfriend, and maiming and killing things on his X-box.
