Auditions for Melville Theatre Company's second season will be held at the theatre on Tuesday February 13th at 7.30 pm A Passionate Woman is a richly and sometimes deeply touching comedy. The play was originally performed in 1993 in Leeds, England and subsequently achieved a long run in 1994 at London's Comedy Theatre with Stephanie Cole in the lead role.. It is amost ingenious and painfully funnycomedy of family manners and celebrates the part of us that stays forever young. Betty, a dedicated and seemingly typical housewife and mother, on the day of her beloved son's wedding retreats to the attic, and, wondering where all the years have gone slips into daydreaming of her youth when to her surprise and the amazement of her family her dreams start to become real and she discovers apart of herelf that she thought was dead long ago - younger, more rebellious and PASSIONATE.... this seems to rejuvenate her sense of self worth and ultimately she escapes the men who, in various ways have prevented her from fulfilling her potential. This play combines the ear of Alan Bennett for ironic dialogue, the eye of Alan Ayckbourn for the achingly painful comedies of everyday life and the child-warm heart of Willy Russell for the aspirations of the mature woman. There are excellent parts for the following; Woman (Betty) 50-55 Her husband 55-60 Son 25-30 Her Dream lover 30-35 PLEASE NOTE THAT THESE ARE STAGE AGES! The action of the play takes place in the attic and on the house roof-top.
