Anzac, painfully shy of strangers.
Set in the early 60’s. this powerful and deeply moving play deals with the generation gap and the true meaning of Anzac Day. Hughie, better educated than either of his parents is contemptuous of the beer swilling ritual with which his father and his wartime mates ‘celebrate’ the massive defeat which Anzac Day commemorates. The patronising attitude of Jan, his wealthy upper crust girlfriend does not help the situation. When she realises that Wacka is one of the original Anzacs she treats him as a fascinating specimen as she tries to interview him.
Authentic broad ‘Aussie’ accents are essential for all cast except Jan.
