To open 2007, MATES will be doing the hilarious play-within-a-play “Noises Off”. The story follows the on and off stage antics of a theatre company who stumble from dress rehearsal to a disastrous last night of their play “Nothing On”. Everything goes wrong as the cast try to hang on to their lines, their performances and the furniture resulting in a terrifying descent into chaos. With offstage jealousies motivating backstage hijinks, leading to onstage mishaps this production offers three hiliarious looks at theatre gone bad. Featuring the oddest bunch actors playing the wildest group of characters ever conceived, it is very easy to see why this show has been called funniest farce ever written. CAST REQUIRED: 5 Males - LLOYD DALLAS: (roughly 40-45). The Director: A sarcastic, selfish and disloyal man, who was once married to Dotty Otley. - GARRY LEJEUNE, (about 25-35). An actor who tries his heart out; despite his imperfections, and is love with Dotty. - FREDERICK FELLOWES, (40s). He is somewhat of a naïve man. Writes attractive new plays with a charming period atmosphere. - TIM ALLGOOD, Aged anywhere between 25-40. He is the company stage manager, technical director, technical crew and understudy for all roles. He hasn't been to bed for 48 hours. - SELSDON MOWBRAY, In his seventies, has played almost every Shakespearean supporting role (supporting himself with alcohol throughout). He is a great character, but is in need of extensive repair and modernization. 4 Females - DOTTY OTLEY, mid forties. One of Britain's favourite B-Grade TV stars and the main star of the play “Nothing On”. A housekeeper of character. - BROOKE ASHTON, early twenties. A desirable property, well-built and beautifully maintained throughout. But not blessed with super intelligence. (Spends majority of time in her underwear). - POPPY NORTON-TAYLOR, aged 25—35+. The assistant stage manager, charming, sweet and the understudy to all female roles. (Does have to appear on stage briefly in just underwear). - BELINDA BLAIR, thirties. Plays the perfect companion to Frederick.
