Are you our James Tyrone?
Eugene O’Neill’s play A Moon for the Misbegotten will be performed at The Old Mill Theatre in South Perth in April 2007.
We are auditioning for the character of James (Jim) Tyrone, an unsuccessful Broadway actor who is battling with his own demons. An alcoholic womaniser with a gambling problem, he is consumed with guilt and self-hatred. Tyrone and his dysfunctional family also appear in another well-known O’Neill play, Long Day’s Journey into Night.
A Moon for the Misbegotten explores Tyrone’s relationship with Phil and Josie Hogan, the father and daughter who are tenants on a farm owned by the Tyrone family. Over one long night, aided by an excess of both moonlight and bourbon, they fight a risky battle of wits. But who is telling the truth? And will Josie Hogan, tough-talking farm girl with a heart of gold, be able to save Tyrone from himself?
If you are an experienced male actor, aged between late 20s and mid-40s who:
ï¶ would love to experience a classic Eugene O’Neill play first-hand
ï¶ is ready to explore the emotional depths of a psychologically challenging role
ï¶ is available to commit to rehearsals in February and March and performances in April 2007
