'THE MUTE GUY' (Working Title) Sensimilla Productions Major Drama Production 2006 For Edith Cowan University Film and Video Actors required for 7-8 min Short Drama. Sensimilla productions is about to embark on its FINAL project for the ECU film and video course 2006. With three years of film and video classes behind us, we are looking for FOUR talented actors to star in their surrealist lyrical-drama: The Mute Guy (name highly subject to change). This is a short drama project unlike any other. The Mute Guy is an introspective psychological horror-drama dealing with the work of an artist who is going to die. We travel inside the mind of a poet, where the facets of his inner self speak in verse. Fans of horror, surrealism, music and poetry would all find something enjoyable in this script. This is going to be highly dynamic work involving many special effects and experimental techniques. Work that would look great on any showreel. Below is a detailed synopsis of characters and a plot outline. For further details or the full script please contact us by e-mail. Bohemian Artist who writes poetry. Dreams of one day making a successful living form his writing. Currently undergoing tests for cancer, he is faced with the possibility of death before he has achieved anything with his life. The threat of which slowly drives him into despair. ANARCHY: Male, 20's?-30's? Age Unknown. Lives in a room adjacent to THE SOUL. Extremely loud and abrasive, anti-authority and destructive. He imbues confidence into the main character, and while he is somewhat unhinged, remains a trusted companion. Operates in a war room waging a campaign on 'everything' in the outside world, which he fights solely through his bedroom window. PEACE: Male, 20's?-30's? Age Unknown. The SOUL's other housemate. Very relaxed and calm in all situations. Logical, wise and rational. His presence helps the main character remain focused and in control. Sits in a peaceful outside area smoking joints and offering his advice. THE MUTE GUY: Male. Old. Age Unknown. Completely silent. Featureless face except for his eyes. Dressed in a suit and carries a briefcase. Everything he touches withers and dies. He slowly corrupts the world around him. PLOT SYNOPSIS THE SOUL sits in his room battering away on his typewriter trying to complete a poem – his 'masterwork', but he can't find the right words to fill the final lines and end it. THE MUTE GUY appears bearing an eviction notice, but THE SOUL refuses to leave before his final piece is complete. Currently undergoing tests for cancer he knows he must write something of importance that will be remembered after he dies, in case that time is soon. THE SOUL, knowing that THE MUTE GUY won't wait idly by while he writes, searches for inspiration in his housemates PEACE and ANARCHY. He asks each of them what they would do if they knew they were going to die, each giving their opinion on what would make his poem memorable. As he does, THE MUTE GUY staggers through each room, leaving a trail of death in his wake. Taking their advice on board he must return to his typewriter and finish his poem before THE MUTE GUY corrupts and destroys them all. The majority of the film is acted out in the three rooms of THE SOUL, ANARCHY and PEACE, which are different places within of the main character's mind. In this space things happen out of the ordinary, as they are simply fragments of THE SOUL'S psyche. THE MUTE GUY is represents cancer, moving through each room draining it of life and colour; he quickly spreads and begins to corrupt everything. Each character speaks in verse, as they talk about the completion of the poem. Their words rhyme and have a loose sense of rhythm, but are still spoken dialogue. Basically it is in a hip-hop rhyming style. They rhyme and loosely flow from line to line. Ultimately, their own dialog becomes the poem that THE SOUL is writing. For this reason the dialog in the script is highly subject to change for rhythm and rhyming adjustment. --- AUDITIONS Note: All the characters are scripted as male, but some could be re-written as female if there is an interest.
