“Listen carefully, I shall say zis only once..”Based on the long-running and much-loved TV series ‘Allo, ‘Allo follows the adventures of Rene, the hapless café owner in occupied France. Throw in a priceless portrait of the Fallen Madonna with the big boobies; a radio disguised as a cockatoo, lecherous Gestapo officers and tricksters impersonating Hitler and the result is chaos.
Remind me….. why did we decide to do this? On second thoughts, don’t. Call Pete and tell him you’d like to be part of this mayhem.
CHARACTERS
Rene 40’s French Lead role. Needs ability to establish rapport with audience. Café proprietor, with whom everyone is utterly besotted – but for no good reason. Cowardly, rather self possessed. Slightly camp.
Edith 40’s or early 50’s French Rene’s wife. A loveable dragon. Thinks she can sing – and does so horribly. Still very much in love with Rene.
Yvette 30’s French Lead waitress in Rene’s café. Leggy and gorgeous. Desperately in love with Rene. Not the brightest thing on the planet.
Mimi 30’s French The other waitress in Rene’s café. Member of the Resistance. Short, murderous and rather bloodthirsty. Also desperately in love with Rene.
Leclerc 60’s / 70’s French Elderly forger and Resistance fighter. An old scoundrel. Sees himself as a master of disguise. Quite incompetent.
Michelle 30’s French “Listen very carefully. I shall say this only once”. The leader of the Resistance. Forceful and assertive. Takes the spying elements of her job very seriously.
Colonel Von Strom 50’s / 60’s German Rather likeable old German officer and commandant for the town of Nouvion. Balding. Dishonest, but not nasty.
Capt Bertorelli 40’s Italian Self professed Italian war hero. Thinks he is God’s gift to women. Like Von Strom, corrupt but not nasty.
Herr Flick 30’s German Nasty head of the Gestapo. Rigid and forthright. Must exude massive energy with very little movement. Plays the violin badly. Non-violinists should not be deterred from auditioning, however
Helga Late 30’s or 40’s German Austere administrative staffer, trying to use her minimal femininity to rise in rank and fortune. Must be willing to be seen in lingerie.
Lt Gruber 30’s German Another in love with Rene. Overtly camp in the traditions of old English television comedy!
Gen. Von Schmelling 40’s or older German Hard nosed German general. Uses his position for personal gain. Generally disliked by all in town.
Crabtree 30’s / 40’s English Englishman disguised as gendarme. Thinks he can speak French, but can’t – so it comes out as “Gid moaning”. Very serious, no sense of humour.
Airmen (x2) 20’s to 40’s English Cameo roles. Extremely Biggles-esque.
Ages are approximate. Accents will be discussed at audition.
