NEW THEATRE AUDITIONS NEW DIRECTIONS 3 Family Stories by Biljana Srbljanovic Translated by Bojana Novakovic Directed by Nicholas Pickard 31 August - 16 September A war is over, or it might not be, there are demonstrations in the streets, famous politicians are publishing self-help books and kids are left unsupervised in their concrete playground. On a stage, or at the back of an apartment block, four adult actors play children who in turn play adults; mums and dads, sons and daughters. This is the game of FAMILY STORIES: BELGRADE... a thrilling, hilarious, devastating allegory to post war society. A game of house which becomes a violent slapstick tragedy. Ten scenes. Ten stories of domestic life created through the honest and brutal eyes of children. Childs play. The game: played in real time on stage, spans 10 or 12 years in their make believe world. Mum and dad (played by Milena and Vojin who are really brother and sister) raise a son (played by Andrija) in Belgrade during the years spanning the Yugoslavian civil war. And they have a family dog (played by Nadezda, a girl with ticks, who appears to be unable to speak) Auditions: 10 -2pm Saturday 1 July, 10-2pm Sunday 2 July 10-2pm New Theatre 542 King Street Newtown Please prepare a contemporary monologue and wear comfortable clothes.
