Originally written by Aristophanes in 412 BC (give or take), Lysistrata is an hilarious, yet still exceedingly relevant, anti-war comedy. In a nutshell: the women of ancient Greece decide to withhold sex until their menfolk stop warring amongst each other.

Lysistrata - A Woman's Translation is the only modern adaptation of Aristophanes' classic comedy written entirely in rhyme. Lysistrata, an Athenian woman fed up with war, rallies together the women of Greece to seize the Treasury, stage a sex strike, and force the men of each warring faction to come home and sign a truce. This makes for a fast-paced and bawdy affair, including the pompous Magistrate's antics of male domination, and the celibacy-sworn Myrrhine's relentless teasing of her sex-starved, phallus-laden husband. Meanwhile, the Chorus of Old Men and Chorus of Old Women square off in an hilarious battle of wits and guts, ultimately resulting in a reunion of genders, ages and political positions.

Think, "Dr Seuss does adults-only pantomime!" Lots of sexual references, rampant phalluses and hopefully some gratuitous nudity.

We need men and women of all ages to fill a cast of 21. (Some smaller roles may be doubled-up.)

Prior to auditions, we are intending to stage a Reading of the play. Anyone who is interested in participating, or just coming along and watching, please contact Jemma or watch this space for more details.
