Auditions for Starting Stalls will take place at l.00 pm sharp at the Garrick Theatre on Sunday October 22nd for the February season.
THE PLAY
The play takes place in the confines of “The Starting Stalls”, an historic brothel in Kalgoorlie's infamous Hay Street. All the action takes place here, and is told through the eyes of the “girls” (prostitutes), their “sitter” – an old, retired prostitute who minds them and runs the brothel – and Rosa, Madam and owner of The Starting Stalls.
CAST
MINNIE - An elderly woman who has seen and done most of what the girls do now. Minnie is their sitter. She lives in the brothel, prevents potential fights between the girls, and the clients. She is a surrogate mother to the girls.
SUZY - Motor bike mad, a dyed blonde with breast implants and tattoos. Suzy is casual and irresponsible, and a loud, good-hearted girl.
CHARLOTTE - a woman who is bitter, lonely and shrewd. Charlotte has a speed problem and is prone to mood swings.
MARIA/MARIKA - One of the girls who has honed her performance with men to a fine art. This character uses different colours and wigs to look like a soft, schoolgirl dressed
blonde or a petulant, steamy, whip-wielding brunette.
ANNA - Anna is an oddity among these women in that she is a new arrival from Europe who struggles to come to terms with an alien environment.
ROSA - Portuguese, celibate and hold quaint moral values for a Madam. She has her tightrope to walk with police, girls who lie, steal and disappear owing her money. A
middle-aged hard businesswoman.
You are requested to bring a close-up photograph of yourself to Audition.
