'Dear Charles' hangs over the mantlepiece. For years the three children of Denise Darvel have considered him their father, but when the elder two are about to marry, Denise decides to reveal the truth. 'Charles' was acquired from a junk shop, and she is not a widow, having never been married, and they all have different fathers. Recognising the need for speedy respectability, Denise summons all three fathers, intending to marry one of them. Alas, none retain the allure of their youth ...
