The Old Mill Theatre will Audition the final season of 2003, Alan Ayckbourn's A Chorus of Disapproval. Audition date is August 17th at 2.00 pm FOR SINGERS WHO ARE ASKED TO BRING ALONG A SCORE OF A SIMPLE SONG. Actors auditions are at 3.30 pm. There will be a reading on Friday August 15th at 7.30 pm. both at the theatre.
Required: 7 males, 6 females, age range 'young' to mid -50's (Note these are STAGE ages) Some roles need some singing ability, tho 'operatic standard' not required!.
THe story line centres on an amateur theatre company preparing to stage The Beggar's Opera.Guy Jones, a shy newcomer to the town decides to try and join the local amateur operatic society to improve his social life. He gets a bit part and by a series of incidents progresses rapidly up the scale to lead! Along the way he is a target for the attentions of most of the female members of the cast, as well as being the target of some dodgy business deals from their husbands
The film version of the play, made in 1989, with screenplay by Alan Ayckbourn starred Anthony Hopkins as the manic director, Jeremy Irons as Guy and Prunella Scales as Hannah.
