A CLASS APART
Adapted by Barry Lowe based on book by James Gardiner
Think of it as buried treasure: two cardboard boxfuls of dusty negatives and yellowed letters, the only surviving evidence of a secret relationship and of an undiscovered period in British history. “A Class Apart” is a truly eye-opening and beautifully crafted play about the photographs and letters of soldier and architect Montague Glover documenting the intimate details of his three obsessions: the Armed Forces, photographing working class men and his life-long lover from the East End, Ralph Hall. This highly visual play, in the style of Merchant Ivory, intertwines the present - the modern day evolution into the famous and bestselling photographic book - with the past - a sexy and unusual love story before and during the Second World War. A FULL CAST show.
A stunning world premiere by Performing Arts Productions in Melbourne, Australia - January/February 2004.
*CASTING REQUIRED:
>Montague (Monty) Glover - aristocratic English accent, good-looking, Military man, an Architect, Amateur (but excellent) photographer, attracted to working class men and boys.
>Ralph Hall - East End accent, tall (6'), blonde, strikingly good-looking, uneducated but intelligent. An army man as well as manservant, general handyman, chauffeur and resident stud.
>Ellen (Nell) Glover, Monty's unmarried sister, a keen gardener and accomplished cook. Resembles her brother in many ways.
and
>Various other interesting period looking men from 16 to 25 with English, Scottish and working-class accents.
