RFM is a murder/mystery with a great plot and stunning twist in the tail. I will be setting the play in an empty theatre in Sydney in the late 1930's. Accents other than Australian will not be a problem and in fact the part of Bella the producer would suit a big blousy American(or someone who can do the accent...think Kathy Bates)The stage and costumes will be all black & white to give the effect of those classic black & white murder mystery movies of the 1930's / 40's
The cast is 10 M early 20's to early 60's
and 5 F from late teens to late 50's. Parts are avail for cameos to leads. No parts will be cast until after the auditions.
RFM is about a young playwright whose fiance (a famous film actress) apparantly commits suicide after the poor reviews of her first venture into "legitimate theatre". The writer believes she was murdered and assembles the cast & crew from the play exactly 12 months to the day since his fiance's death. He tells them he has written a new play - a murder mystery, and has assembled his favourite actors, director & producer to help him flesh out his new piece. Little by little we learn that he believes one of them to be the murderer and the little scenes they rehearse are all pieces that show each one of them had a perfectly good reason for wanting his fiance DEAD. Using flashbacks to the night of the tragedy as well as real life from the present the play rolls ever quicker to it's stunning conclusion revealling a murderer few would have guessed.As soon as I turned the last page I knew that I just had to direct this play.
Auditions will consist of a number of different cold readings and you are encouraged to audition for more than one part. The play will be produced in our own theatre and prod. dates are
Sep Fridays - 5/12/19 & Saturdays - 6/13/20.
