Auditions to be held for "Bye Bye Birdie".
When their singing idol, Conrad Birdie, is about to be conscripted into the U.S Army, millions of his female admirers are dismayed. Their dismay is as nothing compared to that felt by his songwriter-manager, Albert Peterson, faced with losing his valuable property. Albert’s secretary, Rose, is pleased, however, she thinks it would be better for her employer if he gave up the music racket. Then he could return to college, become an English teacher, and perhaps marry her. Despite the argument, Rose soon has a plan to help Albert find the fifty thousand dollars compensation required for Birdie to pick up a good ideal of publicity. She arranges a farewell appearance for Birdie on a TV Show. The gimmick is that Birdie will sing his manager’s song ‘One Last Kiss’, to Kim MacAfee who is a girl picked at random from the Birdie Fan Club. Birdie, Albert and Rose visit the MacAfee family in Sweet Apple, Ohio. There is considerable amusing friction between the generations, between Rose and Albert and between Kim and her boyfriend. Eventually, reconciliations are made all round. Albert and Rose plan to marry and Birdie, after relieving Albert of his contractual obligations, looks forward to a quiet life in the Army
Performance dates 24 - 28 September 2003.
