Scenes from a Separation

3 Men, 4 Women
The play presents the breakdown of a marriage and is a collaboration between two well known Melbourne writers with Bovell writing from the husband's perspective in the first act and Rayson from the wife's point of view in the second.
A play about love, betrayal and sex; of falling in love and getting found out.
CAST:
Mathew Molyneux 40 years old
Head of the Molyneux publishing house, married to Nina. Loves and needs his wife and family but too busy to appreciate them.
A strong and demanding role that has several monologues and is on stage for most of the play, especially the first half as it is his story.
Nina Moss 38 years old
Former journalist, married to Mathew, gave up her career to bring up the children. Mathew has “allowed” her to write the biography of Lawrence Clifford.
Also a strong and demanding role that has several monologues and is on stage for most of the play, but especially so in the second half as it then becomeÂ’s her story.
Darcy Molyneux 38 years old
Suffering from second child syndrome, Darcy is MathewÂ’s brother and is having an affair with Siobhan, which he started when his new baby was eight months old. Dry sense of humour.
Sarah Moss 36 years old
Younger sister of Nina, who longs for the perfect man, but, never finds him on her endless string of dates. She is secretly jealous of NinaÂ’s life.
Siobhan McArdle 24 years old
She is the bright young thing, hotshot new editor at Molyneux Publishing. Verbally spars with Mathew over her insistence of taking on a new genre of gay writers. Having an affair with Darcy and flirts with Mathew.
Margaret Molyneux 60 years old
Mother of Mathew and Darcy, raging “chardonnay socialist” in the 1970’s, drinks too much and has a very liberal viewpoint on life.
Lawrence Clifford 50 - 55 years old
Attractive, former ruthless and extremely wealthy self-made businessman, terrible to his first wife and his son has died. He has turned his life around and is now a philanthropist and Australian of the year. Nina is writing his biography and an obvious spark has developed.
Proposed Audition Date: Sunday, 12 April 2003.
People wishing to audition for Mathew and Nina will need to prepare a specific monologue from the play that will be provided prior to audition. Please contact Leanne for an audition time.
For people auditioning for the other roles, there is no pre-audition preparation.
